simultaneous removal of the above pollutants. The long-term removal efficiency and the effect of environmental and operating conditions on filter performance were studied. Start-up time of the filter was minimized using as inoculum backwash water from an existing pilot-scale plant, while natural advection was adequate to provide sufficient aeration. Redox potential variation throughout the filter depth enhanced simultaneous removal of the pollutants. Under steady operating conditions

MA60AC) foldable acrylic IOL. Scheimpflug imaging (Pentacam) was used to measure anterior segment parameters, including anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber angle (ACA), and anterior chamber volume (ACV), preoperatively and 1 week and 3 months postoperatively.

RESULTS: The study evaluated 125 eyes (123 patients). There was a statistically significant postoperative increase in ACD, ACA, and ACV at 1 week and 3 months in both IOL groups. Although the mean ACD was significantly

higher in the 3-piece group at 1 week, there was no significant between-group difference in ACD, ACA, or ACV at 3 months. There was no significant change in anterior segment parameters from 1 week to 3 months in the 1-piece group; however, the 3-piece group had statistically significant decreases in ACD, ACA, and ACV. Refraction remained stable throughout the follow-up in the 1-piece group but showed a significant myopic shift from 1 week to 3 months in the 3-piece group.

CONCLUSIONS: After phacoemulsification, the 1-piece acrylic foldable

“River regulation results in the disconnection and increased fragmentation of habitats

in the river corridor. In this study, we investigated the within-population genetic variability and among-population genetic differentiation of 21 populations of Origanum vulgare along the River Meuse, using dominant AFLP markers, in order to asses the restoration potential of this species in the context of current river restoration efforts. The average observed within-population genetic diversity was high and suggests that river regulation and associated fragmentation of the populations have not strongly affected genetic diversity. The genetic differentiation between populations was high (Phi(ST) = 0.24) and can be explained by founder effects, rather than by genetic drift in isolated populations. We also detected a pronounced hierarchic spatio-temporal

structure in genetic variation. This structure can be related to the irregular patterns in the flow regime of the River Meuse. “Several active microbial communities that form biogas via decomposition of cellulose and domestic food waste BTSA1 (DFW) were identified among 24 samples isolated from different natural

and anthropogenic sources. The methane yield was 190-260 ml CH4/g from microbial communities grown on cellulose substrates, office paper, and cardboard at 37A degrees C without preprocessing. Under mesophilic conditions, bioconversion of paper waste yields biogas with a methane content from 47 to 63%; however, the rate of biogas production was 1.5-2.0

times lower than under thermophilic conditions. When microbial communities were grown on DFW under thermophilic conditions, the most stable and effective of them produced 230-353 ml CH4/g, and the methane content in biogas was 54-58%. These results demonstrates the significance find more of our studies for the development of a technology for the biotransformation of paper waste into biogas and for the need of selection of microbial communities to improve the efficiency of the process.”
“Delusional parasitosis (DP) is the most frequent delusional disorder in dermatology. In DP there is a fixed belief of a usually skin-related invasion or infestation by a number of alleged infectious species (usually parasites and bacteria), whose identity has varied over the decades. Since 2002 worldwide an increasing number of patients have complained of unverifiable fibers and filaments in or on the skin, associated with numerous nonspecific complaints

(arthralgias, altered cognitive function and extreme fatigue). This entity has been named “”Morgellons disease”" WZB117 by the patients themselves, although medical evidence for its existence is lacking. As an example, we discuss a 55-year-old woman who complained of Morgellons disease and was treated as if she had DP. Currently the delusional assumption of infestation with Morgellons should be considered as a new type of DP with some kind of inanimate material. We therefore recommend in case of DP including Morgellons the use of the broader term “”delusional infestation”".”
“The composition of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of various leaf tobacco brands and their blends has been studied. The differences in the content of nicotine, solanone, tetramethyl hexadecenol, megastigmatrienones, and other compounds, determining the specific tobacco smell, have been revealed. A microbial consortium, which is able to deodorize simulated tobacco emissions and decompose nicotine, has been formed by long-term adaptation to the VOCs of tobacco leaves in a laboratory reactor, functioning as a trickle-bed biofilter.
