Similarly, we observed a stronger negative relationship between Q4-WHR and a measure of memory function for those in the apoE4(+) group compared to those in the apoE4(-) group. In addition, apoE4 status modified the Fer-1 relationship between Q4-WHR and 2 measures of structural brain integrity. First, a paradoxical finding of a negative association between WHR and frontal brain volume that was significant only for those in the apoE4(-) group, and a second finding that WHR was significantly associated with greater white matter hyperintensity volume only in the apoE4(+) group. Conclusions: These
findings suggest that associations between central adiposity and both neuropsychological performance and underlying brain
structure are highly complex and must be considered in the context of possible modifying genetic influences.”
“A major challenge with pancreatic cancer management is in the discrimination of clearly resectable tumors from those that would likely be accompanied by a positive resection margin if upfront surgery was attempted. www.selleckchem.com/products/gkt137831.html The standard of care for clearly resectable pancreatic cancer remains surgery followed by adjuvant therapy, but there is considerable controversy over whether such therapeutic adjuvant strategies should include radiotherapy. Furthermore, in a malignancy with such high rates of distant metastasis, investigators are now exploring the Prexasertib feasibility and outcomes of delivering therapy in the neoadjuvant setting, both for clearly resectable as well as borderline resectable tumors. In this review, we explore the current standard of care of upfront surgery for clearly resectable cancers followed by adjuvant therapy, focusing on the role of radiotherapy. We highlight the difficulties in interpreting a literature fraught with inconsistencies in how resectable vs borderline resectable cancers are defined
and treated. Finally, we explore the role of neoadjuvant strategies in the modern era. (C) 2014 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.”
“The future of dental practice is closely linked to the utilization of computer-based technology, specifically virtual reality, which allows the dental surgeon to simulate true life situations in patients. The virtual articulator has been designed for the exhaustive analysis of static and dynamic occlusion, with the purpose of substituting mechanical articulators and avoiding their errors. These tools will help both odontologists and dental prosthetists to provide the best individualized treatment for each patient.
The present review analyzes the studies published in the literature on the design, functioning and applications of virtual articulators. A Medline-PubMed search was made of dental journals, with the identification of 137 articles, of which 16 were finally selected.
The virtual articulator can simulate the specific masticatory movement of the patient.
